Exclusive interview with Jay-Z’s former princess of the ROC. In this interview with Def Pen Radio,Teairra explains the whole seperation with her & Rocafella, her current relationship with Jay-Z. She also puts the rumors to rest with Lil Wayne as we’ll as her so called fued with Rihanna.New album new label new movie.She’s back!
Hey what’s up Teairra how’s everything?
Everything is awesome, just staying focused:)
So you’ve been missing in action for awhile, whats been happening in the
world of Teairra Mari?
I wanted to finish high school and go to prom, all the normal once in a
lifetime teenage things… And I’ve just been conditioning myself to be the
best that I can.
The whole being dropped from ROC has so many stories, what actually happen
with that situation?
In the process of me finishing school I got a call letting me know that I
was let go. I can’t say that there were any other reasons other than
business, the first album wasn’t a huge success so therefore when it was
time for them to clean up shop, and I had to go!!
I’ve read somewhere that you looked at Jay-Z as a father figure, what’s your
current relationship with him now?
Well as of now there is no relationship with him, I still have a great deal
of respect for him but I don’t look at him the way I did when I was
seventeen.. I mean when u say that u look at someone like a father figure
and they can’t even call and bear bad news to u and on top of that u never
speak to him again, it would be kinda crazy on my part to look at him in
that light still. But as a business man I think he’s one of the best!
I was reading excerpts from your interview with King Magazine and there
seems to be some tensions build up between you and Rihanna, one of the
quotes were “keep your name out your mouth sweetie” can you clear up the
whole situation.
There is no tension whatsoever, there were some misunderstandings and that’s
all! I have respect for her and I’ve always wished her the best. Some People
just always try to make negative situations out of EVERY situation. I’m done
with that.
So you got the new album coming out over there at Fo’Reel
Entertainment/Interscope, what can the fans expect from this album opposed
to the last album?
This album is a lot more grown up, not in a parental advisory kinda way but
in a sexy edgy kinda way! The songs on the last album were great but these
are greater. And Im enjoying making this album, last album I felt a little
more pressure being so young and listening to everyone but myself!
What’s the official release date for the album & how have you’ve grown
from the last album?
We don’t have an official release date as of now, but it’s gonna be sometime
next spring!!!! This has been an amazing experience for me(life).. I’ve
learned things about myself that I would have never learned if I didn’t go
thru rough times within these past few years, I’ve been fighting for myself
ever since I got dropped, I’ve been in some situations where doors have been
closed just because of me being dropped. But no matter what I keep going and
I stay positive, people will try to bring u down every chance they get and
if u let them then ur not mentally stable and u should check yourself and
get it together, cause it’s never to late.. So to answer ur question I’ve
grown (and still growing) into a much stronger and more business savvy
woman, and I know that all of that will reflect on this new project, from
the emotion that I sing with to what I sing about!
New single is entitled “No No No” what’s the story behind that because it
sounds something you’ve actually been through.
That song is not the first single it was just something that was leaked and
ppl liked it, so it also let ppl know that I didn’t drop off the face of the
earth, hahaha! But yes it is something that I’ve been thru, I was in a soul
shaking heartbreaking relationship about two years ago, and finally I had
enough and that’s where the song comes from… It was crazy he was like
poison VERY bad for me.
What are some producers & features we should expect on the album?
Well we aren’t done yet but as of now I’m working with Neffu, Rico love, and
Tony Dixon.. And I may not go anywhere else because I don’t wanna go to a
bunch of different producers and my album not be consistent!
Now you’ve been link to Lil Wayne in the last couple of months, let it be
clear to all the readers your relationship with Wayne.
He’s a good guy very intelligent and extremely talented. There is no
relationship, friendship is all there is!;)
So are you currently single, dating, the male readers definitely got their
eyes glued to the screen right now.
I am SINGLE and pleased, haha.
Without thinking what are the three most important qualities you for in a
guy?
Respectful, honest, CLEAN!
As an artist I know you are fans of other artist as we’ll what’s currently
playing in your iPod?
Jodeci(never stops playing), Mary, Sade, Toni Braxton, and SWV.. Those are
some of the ppl I play everyday!
Aside from the album what other projects you have coming up?
I did a movie called The Doorman, with Gary Dourdan and Jackie Long.. That
was an awesome experience!
