INTERVIEW: Freekey Zekey talks DIPSET!!!

Freekey Zekey Speaks Interview with CHAMP MAGAZINE:

The Boy Hollywood

CHAMP: What’s Goodie homey?

FREEKEY ZEKEY: What’s Good playboy I’m out lettin’ the breeze hit my hat you know what I’m sayin. I’m out in my other city right here in the US North Cack.

CHAMP: Oh ok North Cackalacki

Freekey Zekey: Yeah they say North Cackalack and North Crack-is-back

CHAMP: (laughs). We in Toronto, Canada and The Dots my home so –

Freekey Zekey: It is what it is I get the same love there. I need to come over there. JR been over there a couple of times, Juelz been over there a couple of times, I just gotta take care of a whole lot of legal situations and then you know ya boy’ll be up over there rockin with y’all hard body!

CHAMP: I hear you I hear you. We’re waiting for you

Freekey Zekey: Oh when I get there the trees and everything gon start walking that’s how I’m giving it up out there

CHAMP: (laughs). No doubt. Now you’re doing a lil promo tour in the A for your new situation with Tommy Boy/Big Cat records. When does that start?

Freekey Zekey: Well I just recently signed with Big Cat records and that’s the umbrella for Tommy Boy and it’s like a certain similarity like how Asylum is to Atlantic. So I’m on in, I’m based in the A now, I’m opening my Dipset South/Southern 730 and we just going out there right now doing like a mini tour of the whole Atlanta just to let people see my face and let people understand who and what Freekey!...is all about

CHAMP: That’s what’s up! Upon your new deal we got the album titled Loyalty is Everything. When can we expect that dropping?

Freekey Zekey: I don’t have no exact due date because I designed it that way because I’m not working in a rush manner so until I get my single together, that’s when we’ll be able to have more so of a concrete due date. Other than that we gon’ wing it til we get something right, but I’m pushing towards the first quarter at the top of the year and while y’all waiting on the kid of course I’ma present some music to y’all so I got something called Henny and a Cigarette. That’s my mixtape that I got out right now and it’s bubblin’ down in the A. As we keep making this money I’ma keep replenishing the mixtapes and I’ma send ‘em all across the country.

CHAMP: You mentioned Henny and a Cigarette and of course I peeped that and it’s a crazy tape and I’m loving the So Many joint featuring Sen

Freekey Zekey: Oh yeah that 25. There’s a song on their called 25 and it’s featuring Jim Sen and Me so basically I’ma be runnin’ hard body. It’s the recession now over here in the United States so everybody’s walking around talkin’ about they don’t got it

CHAMP: Now Dj Sream is hosting it. How’d you guys hook up together?

Freekey Zekey: With DJ Scream, he’s always been in the A. Anytime Diplomats been in the A, we been runnin’ around back and forth bumpin heads. It’s not so much that I sat down and hd breakfast with the dude, but I was just runnin’ around and every time I did see him it was all love, so now that I got this situation with Big Cat Records, it was more so of like a basketball assist you know what I’m saying. He’d be like Freek? That’s my nigga of course, so he’s right under Dramain that DJ area so of course I’m poppin the A hardbody. So that’s how that basically went. He did his thing on there too.

CHAMP: Now on a controversial note, you have a Dipset Situation Interlude and I mean the streets and loyal Dip fans would love nothing more than to see you all at one venue together or on a whole track together. Is that ever gonna happen anytime soon?

Freekey Zekey: Oh yeah Freekey’s making that pop. I’ma keep it all 100. There’s a lot fo business things and a lot of business decisions that were not equally welcomed. There were certain things that either Cam did, Jim did, or Juelz did. I was locked up during the situation so I can’t pin point who actually was the person that did what but long story short it broke up a friendship tie not so much as like how we sit everyday with each other or every second with each other. Now it’s more so of a business situation you know what I’m saying? I’ma just keep it all the way 100 like that because we been together for 15-16 years you know what I’m saying? 20 years so the business interfered with the friendship so the friendship somewhat parted, but the business aspect of the situation is still there so of course you will here a song featuring Freekey, Cam & Juelz & Jim.

CHAMP: Alright that what’s up. Now like you said earlier we got the 730 Dips and last year we actually had the homey JR Exclusive ‘cause we got the radio show poppin’ that I host and he came on –

Freekey Zekey: Get outta here! Hold on…How come you ain’t gimme da number? You got a radio show I could be callin’ and going crazy with y’all!?

CHAMP: Yeah man every Monday we got our radio show poppin’. It’s the hottest show in Toronto and everyone knows about CHAMP Radio

Freekey Zekey: That’s all good ‘cause now Freekey know about it now so check the phone and I’ma be on there hard body!

CHAMP: That’s what’s up! So I mean, like I said JR was on it and he was talking about the movement and I just wanted to get an update on how the teams doing and who’s on the official roster and what else can we expect from 730?

Freekey Zekey: First and foremost, 730 Dips run by Freekey Zekey the CEO/President of Diplomat Records. That’s all no hold bars Diplomat Dipset all day and you got me who’s running the whole situation that’s Freekey Zekey aka Dead On Freekey Slap the Shit Out You and I’m running that. Then we got Sen City aka Sen aka Mr.Ooooh who’s doing my hooks because I think he got this unique sound that just pierces through your soul and you can’t do nothing but remember it. Then there’s my young brother, my protégé and his name is Shrek aka He So Green. We call him Shrek ‘cause he look like that ugly muhfucker

CHAMP: (laughs)

Freekey Zekey: (laughs) I don’t got nothing to do with that. He’ one of my artists on these joints and he’s got a unique sound like when you hear him I don’t even know how to explain it. Then I got my boy Sugar Marv aka Jet Lag Ash who spits here and there, but he’s more so on the business side of the situation. He runs the situation. Then of course there’s Juelz with Skull Gang. I can’t start naming those muhfuckas there’s a lot of them muhfuckas I believe; if I miss somebody pardon me it’s Reek, Rev, Dinero, Un Kasa, and…oh yeah Juelz..Ha ha! Then it’s the hard body Byrdgang. Melli Matrix, Sandman, Newy know the name know the difference, Oshy, and my boy Jim Jones aka Jungle Jim ‘cause that man is wild as all outdoors. Then there’s Killa, he got the Team Aura. There’s a whole thing that’s going down but me I’m about to crazy glue some things together and we about to have movement that no one seen and it’s gon’ be done exactly by Freekey Zekey. Then there’s JR Writer, then there’s Hell Rell, and my boy 40. Also my boy Dj Scoob Doo he DJs for Jim Jones, he’s a major asset also because he’ll come up there and turn all the tables on any record that you need and have you going crazy and he’s a real good party dude.

CHAMP: Of course the movement we definitely expecting that to come real heavy I mean you never failed us in regards to the movement –
Freekey Zekey: Word there’s always a Diplomat muhfucka runnin’ around doing something regardless of how it’s going down it’s going down regardless of the situation.

CHAMP: Now there’s cats who got their business ventures these days. Cats are doing movies, cats are opening restaurants and things like that. What’s on Freekeys agenda in terms of business-wise outside the music?

Freekey Zekey: Ok business- wise outside the music, there’s a few things that I’m in to. I don’t know about Canada. I have to do my research first up there. Me I’m more into refurbishing houses. There’s a spot out in Pennsylvania where I get the business connect and a lot of times with businesses they give auctions where it’s not set aside to the public and it’s just a straight business auction. They auction off like a block of two houses that need to be refurbished. They sell em for about maybe to ten thousand dollars and you refurbish the house and you sell it or you do whatever the fuck you wanna do with it. They also sell land so I’m into buying broke down houses refixing them and that’s outside of my business and a dump truck.I’m getting together a 730 dump truck that’s where I wanna go because what really inspired me, which I don’t want it to sound fucked up but when I was locked up and Katrina hit and rest in peace and God bless everybody who went through that tragedy. Any place in the world I just don’t wanna say Katrina, any hurricanes that hit my mind clicked and I said if I had dump trucks out there…you know what I’m sayin’?...I don’t wanna sound fucked up and be like there go that hurricane over there let’s go get money! Nah but on a business aspect of the situation, I would love to get my company to help preserve the situation.

CHAMP: Now earlier you mentioned Scoob Doo and I actually remember the name from hearing Max say his name once?

Freekey Zekey: (Does the scratching effect and impersonation of Max B saying “DJ Scoob Doo)

CHAMP: (laughs)

Freekey Zekey: (laughs) it’s unfortunate how that situation went down with Max you know what I’m saying. That was a talented young fellow who jumped the gun on a situation that he didn’t really know too much of. Like say for instance I work for you and every time I see you you look like a million dollars, and you doing things and I see money in your hands. I don’t know that I’m flashin’ some of the money just to make the people understand yo hold on…

(Freekey Screams at homey outside: You out?! I’m doing an interview with Canada what you want me to tell em?!)

Freekey Zekey: Aight he tells niggas what’s up what’s good. Like I said long story short if I see you runnin’ around flashing money with expensive cars da da da da da. I don’t know that you really just making it look good for the public eye until the money actually gets there. The little bit that you got – it’s like we caught in that whilrlwind where you gotta have all the women, gotta have all the money, gotta look fly, like as soon as you get signed you’re supposed to be a billionaire in the youthful eye. People who’ve been involved in the system or really understand what’s going on know it’s a grind. You didn’t start working yesterday you really know what I’m talking about and you know about the struggle and grind, and it’s always ongoing of how you gon’ make a dollar.

CHAMP: Exactly

Freekey Zekey: It’s not ok you speak to rappers and interview rappers now you the most famous person in Toronto. You got Bentleys and all this shit. It’s like basically the grind and you got to understand that and sometimes you jump the gun like what Max did and he basically got the boot.

CHAMP: Now I heard he signed some crazy ten album deal and he can’t even move or go no where

Freekey Zekey: Yeah exactly it’s just part of the deal. That’s the first thing that he did that was wrong, he was speeding and that’s what happened. He speeded until he ran straight into that nice concrete brick wall and he smashed like them flies and animals on your windshield when you on the highway. It’s like one of them niggas. He signed like a ten album deal and Jim ones all his publishing so anything that he says that gets a dollar Jim owns

CHAMP: Wow. Well he’s with Amalgam Digital now so I figured he was gone but –

Freekey Zekey: He (Jim Jones) owns his publishing. Right now if I was working for you and if I get mad and try to take it and go sell it somewhere else, you would be more than happy when I do that ‘cause you getting’ money

CHAMP: (laughs) Oh man! Also like a few months ago the Bravehearts came at you about some snitching shit and what was your thoughts and views on that?

Freekey Zekey: Oh yeah talk to me. It’s just funny to me. It’s funny because when you broke and you have no money and you just really fucked up point blank period, you try to find anything to help springboard a career. The Bravehearts got on camera and YouTube saying “ Freekey, you snitching, Freekey da da da da da da, Freekey you this you that, we got the papers right here look”. Put it on camera now look if you got these papers from the courts, or if you had these papers from one of your peoples that’s in jail that they got from the courts, first and foremost George Moores name wouldn’t be on there, which is Duke Da God. Then its Ezekiel Giles spelled with G instead of a J. Then on the paper where it’s supposedly stated that I’m snitching on paper has scratch outs on there and the lady who types all of that is a little lady who’s just one sided and writes everything shorthand. She doesn’t go back and scratch things out with a marker and give it to you so that was comical right there that was the first thing that made me life right there like look at this little dudes right here. First of all what’s they name again? Bravehearts? They still live with they moms and they about 30 years old. 30 years old! If you at 21 and you can’t at least maintain a car or house or something like that, then you fucked up. Everyone at 21 was poppin’ and ballin’ at the time but I had a job whether it was real or it wasn’t I had one. Anyways they still sleeping with they moms, they don’t have no cars, they broke, they talking all this shit and none of them had no jewellery on, the collars of they necks was baggy on they t-shirts, they pants look like every last one of them had them on one day out of that week, and they wrong! They got everything wrong so I said ok if these dudes wanna play – I’m not the type of person - I see now in the entertainment business so I give my fans what they need to hear but this time right here when you calling somebody a snitch, that’s a different code that you breaking. This is something you don’t usually play with ‘cause I did three years and within them three years I done seen a whole lot of people eyes and ears, and necks, and mouths, and arms, and backs get severed. And it had nothing to do with snitching just on little other things. Now the people that came in there and was snitching, the things that happened to them was like unbearable to see to the naked eye for some people if you can’t take gory looking stuff but this is what they did so Dead On Freekey went to they block. I went straight to they block and I said this is where they mother live I’ma go they mothers house and yeah I’m bringin’ 730 and we gonna be on your block for the whole day now.

CHAMP: (laughs)

Freekey Zekey: Yeah so Freekey and 730 is on the Braveheart dudes or whatever they call themselves; we on they block. Asking, calling, yelling, screaming, chilling, turnin’ the music up, and tellin’ the niggas “where are these niggas at?!”No show so after awhile we didn’t want no police people to come through or whatever, but we made sure our presence was all the way felt and then we got out of there

CHAMP: And there was a no show?

Freekey Zekey: Three weeks later they call somebody who know us talkin’ ‘bout “What’s wrong with Freekey? Why he wanna come through?”- What you mean why I wanna come through the block? “It ain’t even like that no more”. Now what people do is they don’t check peoples credentials. They don’t check no ones credentials. Like they just hear Freekey but then now when they hit the hood and be like yeah I fuck with this nigga Freekey I’m bout to bash this niggas head in. A nigga be like “Whoa…What Freekey you talkin’ bout?...Oh that Freekey?...Aight well that’s on you dog but I’m not with you” Because for one, I’m not sayin’ I’m the rough tough nigga who cut out your asshole puff at the blink of an eye for one, I’m a good hearted dude. I don’t walk around with my chest out. I don’t walk around saying ha haa III’m better than anyboooody you guys whip my aaaasss. No I’m not on that. I’m a cool dude where if we walkin’ in the streets and you have no money in your pocket and I got two dollars, you at least know that you got a dollar. Fuck around you might have a dollar fifty. I’m a good hearted dude. I see you it’s all love. I don’t try to put no one beneath me, and I’ll chill with you I don’t give a fuck where it’s at. I don’t care if we in the five star hotel or half a star hotel we gon’ rock it out. Then for two, they done seen me break jaws, open niggas eyes up and have body parts broke and I gets it rockin’. Why you wanna fuck with that nigga? So when they find out the credentials them Braveheart faggots like “Uh tell Freekey uh let’s meet up at a bar and grill and uh” Tell these niggas to get the fuck outta here and that’s basically how that snitch shit went. I ain’t even stressin’ over it ‘cause I know it ain’t true so I just see it as lil niggas tryina do little things and all they gon’ end up with is a little of nothing. I ain’t even respond to them I have no internet situation with them and I ain’t make no song about them I just went to they block.
